The Hunt Is On - The Vintage Collection 3 3/4" VC96 Darth Malgus (The Old Republic) Found

Success! A couple of weeks ago the staff at Farmers in Wellington were kind enough to take down my contact details and promise to put aside a VC96 Darth Malgus (The Old Republic) should one turn up. Today I received the call, and I am now the proud owner of not one, but two, mint-condition and unpunched Malgus figures.

I'll be keeping one and - sacriligious as it may seem - opening it. I'm sorry, but this figure is just too damn cool to not break out of the packaging and display properly! The second figure will be going to one of my buddies over on the SWNZ Forums as per Rebelscum's Collect to Collect Code of Honour.

It seems that The Vintage Collection 3 3/4" VC96 Darth Malgus (The Old Republic) is proving far harder to track down than initially expected. According to the staff at Farmers in Wellington there is only one of these being packed per case.

Unfortunately the rarity of this figure is making them sought-after prey for scalpers. Here's hoping I manage to cross paths with one of these very cool figures soon!

The Birth of a Trooper - Armour Update 3

As anticipated, production of my suit of Stormtrooper armour begins this week! Jon has purchased the ABS plastic, and the first few pieces should be coming out of the vacuform in the next few days.

The Birth of a Trooper - Armour Update 2

A few days ago I received an update from Jon in Auckland regarding my suit of Stormtrooper armour. Looks like it'll be just another week's wait and then production will start!

From New Zealand to Houston

It's been in the pipeline for a while now, but last week everything was finalised - in August this year I'll be moving to Houston, Texas to start my PhD!

I suppose this is both bad news and good news. The bad news is that I'll be away from my collection for some pretty long stretches of time. The good news is that I'm going to have access to an entirely new market for Star Wars collectibles. Fingers crossed that the good outweighs the bad. I'm hoping I'll be able to bring back some great items for my collection!

Most importantly, however, updates on this blog will continue as per normal!

The Approaching Storm and The Clone Wars: The Way of the Jedi Paperbacks

The Whitcoulls on Lambton Quay in Wellington is moving - and getting rid of a lot of old stock in the process. Today I picked up The Approaching Storm by Alan Dean Foster and The Clone Wars: The Way of the Jedi for $5.00 each.

3 3/4" Movie Heroes MH14 Anakin Skywalker

This weekend Toyworld is running a particularly good promotion - 50% off any one item under $30.00. While the Wellington branch didn't have any of the figures on my huntlist, I did pick up a Movie Heroes MH14 Anakin Skywalker at $12.49 after the discount.

The People vs George Lucas DVD

Yesterday I picked up a copy of The People vs George Lucas for $18.98 from JB Hi-Fi in Wellington. I haven't seen this documentary yet, but all Star Wars-related DVD releases end up being added to my library. I'll share my thoughts on the film soon one I've sat down and watched it. 12" Chewbacca and Boba Fett

I recently bought a 12" Chewbacca and Boba Fett off spazwars over at the SWNZ Forums. The condition of these figures is brilliant, so if you're in the market for some 12" figures I definitely recommend having a look at what he has for sale.

The Clone Wars 3 3/4" MagnaGuard Fighter

Farmers has recently been selling off a lot of old stock at reduced prices. I managed to pick up The Clone Wars MagnaGuard Fighter for $25.50 (down from $59.99).

While this was never at the top of any of my hunt lists it was hard to turn down for the price. It's a pretty nice vehicle - sleek lines, well-proportioned, and with very little scaling down from the movie original. The ship comes with a number of features including working landing gear, an opening cockpit canopy, swivelling thrusters, firing missiles, and very nifty side-hatches for storing the Magnaguard's electrostaff. My VC18 MagnaGuard figure fits inside perfectly too.

Star Wars Niue Currency

In an earlier post I mentioned that I had put an order in for a Niue Star Wars Darth Vader coin. It arrived a few weeks ago, and I must say I'm pretty impressed.
